The internet was founded on a set of fundamental principles that made possible its exponential growth, scalability and essentially becoming the critical building block of our modern information society. However, over the last few decades the internet has also seen the rise of the Big Tech and the overall trend of further centralisation and de facto monopolies within the application layer, coupled with further risks to privacy and competition, together with an increased regulatory attention from all corners of the world. New emerging technologies, such as AI and XR are on the crux of changing the internet ecosystem even more, especially in connection to the next stages of the Web development (Web 4.0). In this lecture, we will explore two alternative scenarios of a potential future development for the internet and the web, based on its history and current challenges, and explore the solutions for our common digital future to remain bright, safe, inclusive and open.
Dr. Roberts, a renowned expert in digital ethics and safety, will unravel the complexities surrounding cyberbullying and deepfakes, offering valuable insights and solutions for a safer digital environment.

For years the world of digital has echoed with the mantra of making experiences frictionless. The idea is that if you get everything out of the way, you make it easier for customers to slide to the checkout and enter their credit card information. It’s a smart approach but it’s gone too far. We’ve created a simple world devoid of meaning and emotion. Some experiences are better with a bit of friction. And in this talk Dave Birss will explain how you can use friction to release feel-good neurochemicals in the brains of your customers.
Just over a year after the seismic shift in the IT industry caused by ChatGPT, this session will explore the impact of the next generation of artificial intelligence on the field of creative expression. We will consider the scope and impact of models and tools for generating and processing text, images, video and music, analyse how they have changed the market and the way people work day-to-day, and explore what opportunities they have opened up, what risks they have brought with them, how we can adapt to these changes and where this great change is taking us.
This panel explores key aspects of the future of the Internet through the prism of global regulations, technological innovations and business trends. With the participation of both domestic and international experts, we discuss the implications of technology, regulation and AI on the development of the Internet and users. The panel will be moderated by Danko Jevtović, a member of the RNIDS Board of Directors. Panelist Kristijan Kaufman, a member of the ICANN Board of Directors, has been involved in Internet architecture for over 20 years and will give us insight into what changes and security challenges await us from the technological side. Rastko Petaković, a partner at Karanović & Partners, will provide insight into the legal challenges and regulations we expect. Mika Tasić, a technology strategist from England, will analyze the impact of new Web and AI technologies on marketing, business and growth strategies. Join us as we explore scenarios for the future of the Internet and ways to prepare for the coming changes.
The tradition of re-established private entrepreneurship in Serbia is only a little more than 30 years long. This usually means that those generations who founded the first private companies in their youth and prime of life are now at an age where important decisions have to be made regarding the next few decades of the company. The process of introducing the second generation into the business, or the professionalization of the company, is not simple. There are centuries of tradition and experience in the world that can be referred to. With us, such ventures are still pioneering, but we believe that good examples of business transition are very important as an inspiration and indicator that a real business outgrows the people who created it.
It happened again!
We got a new, indispensable tool that promises to make up for our inabilities and complement our abilities.
We got a new way to do things that took a long time in less time.
To do something with a few people which previously took many.
To do something by machine which previously took humans.
We can fantasise about the possible consequences or we can joke about them. Or maybe both, since we don’t have a crystal ball that can reveal this unpredictable future to us. We will find a happy medium, based on optimism with some experience thrown in, in a talk lasting half an hour and maybe a minute longer. It won’t be boring, not during the presentation on the topic, and certainly not in the decades to come.
One of the traditions of the Serbian Internet Domain Day are surveys, the results of which are published for the first time during the conference.
DIDS 2024 will not be an exception either. The survey named “Prevention of Security Risks for Small and Medium-sized Enterprises” is a useful resource not only for the participants of the event but also for the entire domestic Internet community.
This research represents a concrete contribution to the illumination of facts related to this current, very complex topic.
The research questions are:
The research was conducted by the Register of National Internet Domains of Serbia (RNIDS), on a random sample of small and medium-sized enterprises in Serbia, in the period from January 9 to February 2, 2024, using the telephone survey method (CATI).
The survey was conducted with owners, directors, or managers who were informed about the topic of security risk prevention in their respective companies.
The domen.rs project, after several years of development, has surpassed the framework in which it was created, and the time has come for a visual refresh, as well as for expanding the functionality and format of the content and opening its own communication channels on social networks. We will guide you through this transformation process and show you the results achieved.
This project came about from a desire to present information on the use of Internet technologies by Serbian companies in the simplest possible way, and be used for comparison purposes. Accordingly, a digital development index was calculated for Serbia as a whole, for each of the Serbian regions, and also for companies broken down by size, age, classification, industry and target market. The indices were obtained by weighting the results obtained from research conducted in October 2023, where different weighting factors were defined in accordance with the importance of certain technologies for online business (for example, having a website, a social media profile and an email address on your own domain carry different weights). These values were incorporated into a website at индекс.срб, which means that any company in Serbia can assess where they rank in terms of the online world in relation to other companies of the same size, age, in the same industry, etc. Companies with poor results in regard to use of any of the technologies will be offered links to articles by experts that can help them improve their online business.
Social engineering, in the context of information security, is one of the most fascinating ways in which technology and psychology can be abused. It is the technology that executes the attack, but it is psychology that provides the mechanisms for the strategy and tactics of attack. And the strategy is always about hitting the right targets in the psyche of the individual being attacked. During this talk you will learn the nature of the tactics of an attack from a psychological perspective, what the targets are in the psyche of the person under attack and why this is so effective, as well as how to prepare a defence against the traps that our own brain can lead us into, almost without us noticing.
From time to time a word or phrase emerges that quickly enters the vocabulary of business people, yet almost no one actually understands what it means. “Digital transformation” has been a major topic that everyone seems to have been wrestling with for the last 15 years, but when you try to think of good examples or case studies, there aren’t many. We will talk about why this is so, and demonstrate some positive examples and principles that can guide us in this process.
Rakija is a national drink, and we often treat national things with insufficient attention and care. That’s why many of those things never get the status they deserve. Branko is one of the few people who, for more than 15 years, has been actively trying to educate the public, as well as producers, to become quality standards, but also to expand knowledge and make rakija, on the map of strong alcoholic drinks, get its deserved place among the best.
The portal at the address domen.rs has in a short time become a credible and recognized source of concrete, useful information that is at the service of companies and organizations operating in Serbia – whether local or international, and which had no dilemma regarding the choice of a .rs domain for your site.
Every month we publish an interview with people who are the owners of local businesses in our country and who point out arguments in favor of doing business on the .rs domain, while touching on specific business topics, which is especially useful for all those who are at the beginning of their entrepreneurial journey times.
The websites and applications we use every day deliver different user experiences based on the values (and goals) a given company delivers to the user. One of those goals may be to design an interface that will support different languages. In this lecture, we will look at the implementation of multilingualism and how it flows through different interfaces.
From a theoretical point of view, implementing multiple languages should not be a complicated requirement. In practice it may look a little different. Therefore, through this lecture, we will focus on practice and interesting examples that we encounter every day.”
In 2020, the Serbian National Internet Domain Registry Foundation (RNIDS) launched the Lokalac na internetu (Local Guy on the Internet) project, which has been constantly developing and expanding ever since.
It is a humanitarian activity of the sale of branded products, where the proceeds from the sale are directed to the Regional Center for Young Talents “Nikola Tesla” as an aid for the implementation of program activities, the education of talented children and young scientists, the creation of scientific research works and preparations for competitions.
The results are already visible – registration fees for participation in the STEMCO international competition in five scientific disciplines were purchased from the donated funds for 22 participants of the Center. 24 medals were won at the competition – 12 gold and 12 silver, and registration fees were purchased for 3 participants for the ISRIF (International Student Research and Innovation Fair), where 3 medals were won, one gold and two silver.
While the first Lokalac t-shirt appeared in 2020, numerous models have followed until today, and Lokalac has become a brand that everyone wants to have.
From the very beginning, the Dechko Tzar brand, which is a partner on this project with the RNIDS Foundation, was responsible for the design and production.
The local has its website, and the assortment has been expanded with new items in addition to t-shirts, where every purchase contributes to a charitable goal.
At the DIDS 2024 conference, a new collection of products will be presented and plans for the next period will be presented, including the extension of project support to the Mathematics High School in Belgrade.
That Lokalac on the Internet is not limited by anything but ideas and goodwill is also shown by the gesture of the people from Dogma with whom we made the beer “Local on the Internet”, where 20 dinars from each sold can go to tree planting organized by the organization Discover Serbia.
Serbian National Internet Domain Registry (RNIDS) proudly invites you to a lecture as part of the DIDS 2025 conference, where the results and novelties of the ‘Local on the Internet’ project will be presented, as an example of how a humanitarian initiative can become a catalyst for positive changes in society.
Since its launch in 2020, the ‘Local on the Internet’ project is constantly growing, expanding its humanitarian mission. The funds collected through the sale of branded products support the education and development of young talents. Thanks to previous donations, the “Nikola Tesla” Center for Young Talents has enabled the participation of its students in prestigious international competitions, bringing Serbia as many as 27 medals. The students of the Mathematical High School visited the European Laboratory for Nuclear Research – CERN, experiencing a unique experience that connected them to the world of cutting-edge scientific research.
At the DIDS 2025 conference, a new collection of Lokalac brand products will be premiered, as well as plans for the future, including support for the association Lice Street and the creation of a mural in Belgrade. The partner of the project, the Dechko Tzar brand, created exclusive designs for the collection that combines style and humanitarian spirit.
Join us at DIDS 2025 and learn how a brand everyone wants to wear can make a big difference in the community. Inspiring stories, new plans and the opportunity to be part of a humanitarian mission that changes the future of young talents and provides support to those in need await you.
See you at the DIDS 2025 conference!
We were interested, and we believe you are too, how many businesses use digital technologies in their operations – e-mail, website, e-commerce, cloud services, social networks, collaboration tools, video conference tools, business software. Also, how much they digitized their regular activities – exchange of documents, transaction activities with banks, document archiving and other. We believe that the results of this research will be interesting and useful for you.
A short story of how we learned that a domain strengthens your brand, but also how with the help of a domain we can create a completely new brand. We will also tell you the story of how our brand broke free of keyword-based SEO and we began to see quite unexpected traffic growth to our website as a result.
The subject of language always encompasses aspects of politics, culture and identity. Writing, as an expression of language, reflects the political and cultural heritage of a nation. This discussion will explore the extent to which the Cyrillic alphabet shapes our identity. Is Cyrillic inseparable from our identity and does it contribute to our authenticity? How is the Cyrillic alphabet perceived in Serbia and how do other nations see it? How does it affect Serbia’s image? Is there a place for the Cyrillic alphabet in the modern digital age? What is the aesthetic value of the Cyrillic alphabet? These are some of the questions to be debated, and answers provided to them if possible.
After we evaluate the research and see how and to what extent businesses use digital technologies and solutions in business, we will talk to representatives of local software companies that develop business solutions for the domestic, regional and foreign markets. What is their impression of the state of the market and what are their experiences in cooperation with micro, small or larger companies from Serbia. We will also answer the question of how different our companies are from the region and abroad, but also through positive examples and see how our traditional businesses win in digital transformation.
Traditionally, we have been testing your knowledge of the history of the Internet and digital technologies for several years now, and we reward the best with valuable prizes. We play the quiz live and follow the top list in real time, and at the end we announce the winners!
Does Cyrillic have a place on the Internet? Experience tells us: Yes!
And, is using Cyrillic (what you’re probably thinking about) without its problems? – It’s not!
What are the problems with using the Serbian Cyrillic alphabet, and what are its (dis)advantages, we will find out during the keynote speech by Dušan Stojičević, vice-chair of the RNIDS Board of Governors.
During the lecture, we will find out the answers to the questions that we have encountered in any capacity of an Internet user:
Why doesn’t anyone write us emails in Cyrillic?
How to use the .срб domain?
How does Facebook treat Cyrillic links?
Why do we get a kilometer-long link when we copy-paste a Cyrillic web address?
How much does it really cost us to use the Cyrillic alphabet?
Mr. Stojičević will be at our disposal for all other questions related to the Cyrillic alphabet on the Internet that (without any irony) you simply had no one to ask.
In this speech Fredrik will take us on a tour around the world to discover what we can learn about creativity from people he has met during his 20+ years of traveling the planet to better understand the true potential of human creativity. Be ready to learn, to be inspired and to look at creativity in a new way.
