Keynote: Back to the Future: Towards a stronger Internet

The internet was founded on a set of fundamental principles that made possible its exponential growth, scalability and essentially becoming the critical building block of our modern information society. However, over the last few decades the internet has also seen the rise of the Big Tech and the overall trend of further centralisation and de facto monopolies within the application layer, coupled with further risks to privacy and competition, together with an increased regulatory attention from all corners of the world. New emerging technologies, such as AI and XR are on the crux of changing the internet ecosystem even more, especially in connection to the next stages of the Web development (Web 4.0). In this lecture, we will explore two alternative scenarios of a potential future development for the internet and the web, based on its history and current challenges, and explore the solutions for our common digital future to remain bright, safe, inclusive and open.

The future of the Internet: Regulations, technologies and business horizons

This panel explores key aspects of the future of the Internet through the prism of global regulations, technological innovations and business trends. The panel will be moderated by Danko Jevtović, a member of the RNIDS Board of Directors. Panelist Kristijan Kaufman, a member of the ICANN Board of Directors, has been involved in Internet architecture for over 20 years and will give us insight into what changes and security challenges await us from the technological side. Rastko Petaković, a partner at Karanović & Partners, will provide insight into the legal challenges and regulations we expect. Mika Tasić, a technology strategist from England, will analyze the impact of new Web and AI technologies on marketing, business and growth strategies. Project presentation: Serbian Digital Development Index

This project came about from a desire to present information on the use of Internet technologies by Serbian companies in the simplest possible way, and be used for comparison purposes. Accordingly, a digital development index was calculated for Serbia as a whole, for each of the Serbian regions, and also for companies broken down by size, age, classification, industry and target market. The indices were obtained by weighting the results obtained from research conducted in October 2023, where different weighting factors were defined in accordance with the importance of certain technologies for online business (for example, having a website, a social media profile and an email address on your own domain carry different weights). These values were incorporated into a website at индекс.срб, which means that any company in Serbia can assess where they rank in terms of the online world in relation to other companies of the same size, age, in the same industry, etc. Companies with poor results in regard to use of any of the technologies will be offered links to articles by experts that can help them improve their online business.

Keynote: Digital transformation the Serbian way

From time to time a word or phrase emerges that quickly enters the vocabulary of business people, yet almost no one actually understands what it means. “Digital transformation” has been a major topic that everyone seems to have been wrestling with for the last 15 years, but when you try to think of good examples or case studies, there aren’t many. We will talk about why this is so, and demonstrate some positive examples and principles that can guide us in this process.

13:40 - 14:00
A local on the Internet

Serbian National Internet Domain Registry (RNIDS) proudly invites you to a lecture as part of the DIDS 2025 conference, where the results and novelties of the ‘Local on the Internet’ project will be presented, as an example of how a humanitarian initiative can become a catalyst for positive changes in society.

Since its launch in 2020, the ‘Local on the Internet’ project is constantly growing, expanding its humanitarian mission. The funds collected through the sale of branded products support the education and development of young talents. Thanks to previous donations, the “Nikola Tesla” Center for Young Talents has enabled the participation of its students in prestigious international competitions, bringing Serbia as many as 27 medals. The students of the Mathematical High School visited the European Laboratory for Nuclear Research – CERN, experiencing a unique experience that connected them to the world of cutting-edge scientific research.

At the DIDS 2025 conference, a new collection of Lokalac brand products will be premiered, as well as plans for the future, including support for the association Lice Street and the creation of a mural in Belgrade. The partner of the project, the Dechko Tzar brand, created exclusive designs for the collection that combines style and humanitarian spirit.

Join us at DIDS 2025 and learn how a brand everyone wants to wear can make a big difference in the community. Inspiring stories, new plans and the opportunity to be part of a humanitarian mission that changes the future of young talents and provides support to those in need await you.

See you at the DIDS 2025 conference!
